Recognizing Trauma

Updated: Jul 12, 2022

When I tell people I specialize in trauma most often think of overt physical and violent sexual abuse.

Trauma can be covert. I was recently reminded of the definition of trauma "a stressful event happening too fast to process completely."

The effects of this event can effect you subtlety. You won't be reminded of it until you realize your dislike of a smell... you shy away from people who work in a certain industry or are from a particular neighborhood.

Covert and overt trauma can be deeply rooted from youth or can occur from something recent. Religious repression, childhood regression, emotional neglect from a relationship are all examples of this.

Let's make seeking help to grow from trauma the norm!
